Sun Burning Books

This is an engraving. The sun looks mad. Three heads?

This is a site I hope I never witness. Books burning. I think that is why the sun is so angry. I am an avid reader. This almost makes me want to break down into tears.

Mosaic Sun

As much as I love art, and sun images...this one is not one I would have in the foyer. If someone was going to give it to me, maybe I would put it in the bathroom or even by a pool. This one is from Italy, and looks like the artist was inspired by Medusa.
I think I may have looked like this yesterday as I was flying down the street in my Mini Cooper with the windows down, and my hair wet. I was even laughing thinking about how I must look like Medusa. Passing all the big cars in my little car. Speed limit...what speed limit? I did not see it posted. I was going to fast. I was in a hurry, running late to pick up the kids. Maybe I spent to much time tweeting. OCD

Wow, a little off topic. ANYWAY! Send me an image of one you have seen in your area.

Until tomorrow, or until we tweet...May sunshine fill your day!

Ancient Italian Sun God

I must confess. I studied Classic Cultures, but I don't recall this being on of the Gods. I know that the Ancient Etruscans worshiped Apollo. I don't recall that there was another Sun God, but these images of the sun with a human face are prevalent throughout Italy. I think in this blog I offer more questions than I do answers. Was it an import of the Phoenicians or an Ancient Greek subculture that came over with this God?

President Washington's Sun Chair

Can you believe this? I think this is so Ironic. A brand new day dawning in history...A president that is the leader of a new nation... A new dawn. It is poetic in the most beautiful way. A chair to sit in for the president that depicts a sunrise. I would have never believed it if I did not see it for myself. I wonder if President Washington had a special likeness for "sun" items. I will have to look it up.

San Luis Obispo

Here is a great photo I took of the sunrise. I like how you can see the rays peeking over the mountains. Although this is not an "image" I thought it fit "Sunday". It is lovely.

Ancient Sun

I so enjoy these images of the sun. It is so fascinating how many ancient cultures were lured by the sun energy. Did they feel as though it gave them energy? Did they know how much their lives depended on the sun?
I have to look up cultures that did not have as much sun...see how often they utilized images of the sun as a God or Deity of some kind.
Most people know that the Ancient Babylonians, Mycenaes, and Egyptians had a special relationship with the sun. I have seen many images of the each of these cultures worshiping the sun in some way.
In the coming days, weeks, and months I hope to bring you a little sun each day, and provide you with something about the image. If you are interested in sending an image and information about the image please feel free to do so at ContessaGrigia@gmail.com
